About Rirà

The word Rirà comes from an Irish expression, ‘Ri ra agus Ruaille Buaille’, which basically means a mixture of complete madness and craic with some drinks and great food thrown in, to spice things up a little.

This basically sums the three of us up quite nicely. If you add a bit of music to this mix then you have come to the right place, our ‘Rirà’ world.

Our musical songwriting base you could say is Irish but our style of music can vary so much that it is hard to put us into any particular genre. We are not really Folk or Neo or Modern but you could say we are a mixture of them all.

Anyway, the most important thing is, well, if it sounds good sure we might as well play it.

We started out in May 2022. It was just after they lifted the COVID restrictions. In the beginning it was about the music. We wanted to set up an Irish feel to the style of the music. So, with a mix of banjo, flute, violin, guitar, and some percussion, you can’t really go wrong. You have already gotten a good head start.

Myself and Maddy have been playing together for years and it’s because of this that we work very well together. Yann on the other hand is the baby. So, in the beginning we had to adapt to each other’s different styles of music and temperament as a trio. It’s been almost a year now and working together has been great, nothing is a problem. But it was all about the music at the start. We never thought that we would go on to create our own world that would be more than just music. A world that would consist of so many of our own ideas that we could share with everyone. A Rirà world full of culture, music, poetry, stories, lyrics, concepts etc. A world that represents the three of us and our lives, our influences, our families, our friends, our sadness, and our happiness.

The adventure is just beginning !
